The three main categories of sin are the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life (1 John 2:16). Pornography definitely causes us to lust after flesh, and it is undeniably a lust of the eyes. The addictive nature of pornography is well documented. Just as a drug user must consume greater quantities of drugs or more powerful drugs to achieve the same “high,” pornography drags a person deeper and deeper into hard-core sexual addictions and ungodly desires. A lot of homosexuals who have come out of this lifestyle claim that they were hardcore porn addicts. They start off by watching soft porn but like addiction they start needing more and more to satiate their desires and that pushes them to deeper levels of dark porn that changes their desires and inclinations. Women who watch porn have reported that their desires for other women started increasing. They no longer watched porn for the men, but it was for the women. So there is a definite connection here. A lot of sexual crimes committed against women and children are born out of this lust of the eyes. It is destructive and has destroyed many lives and homes. Seek help to overcome because we can’t do it in our own strength.

In many ways it dehumanizes man, the essence of our humanity is that we are created in the image of God and He created us male and female. And bringing together male and female in union as one flesh is the main essence of being human. When we turn this around, as men toward men and women toward women, we are truly dehumanizing and degrading ourselves. This is harmful not to the individual itself but to the whole of humanity also. For example, Prostitution - there are few that say it’s exciting and fun!! But because of prostitution, many women/girls are kidnapped, raped, tortured. Just because it doesn’t harm one person, we cannot take it out of the realm of morality.

The Bible doesn’t teach that homosexuality is a sin that Christians will never face. People increasingly are coming to terms with the fact that Christians face equal and more temptation in this world. Overcoming temptation is what will give us the ultimate victory. The Christian journey is a progressive journey of overcoming the sins of the flesh. It is possible for a Christian to struggle with homosexual temptations. Many homosexuals who become Christians have ongoing struggles with homosexual feelings and desires. Some strongly heterosexual men and women have experienced a “spark” of homosexual interest at some point in their lives. Whether or not these desires and temptations exist does not determine whether a person is a Christian. The Bible is clear that no Christian is sinless (1 John 1:8,10). While the specific sin / temptation varies from one Christian to another, all Christians have struggles with sin, and all Christians sometimes fail in those struggles (1 Corinthians 10:13).

“Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals, nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God” (1 Corinthians 6:9-10).

So if a Christian continues to be gay saying that God is an all-forgiving God and he will overlook this sin, then do not be deceived. Continuing to live in sin will only prove that the love of God has not touched our heart. When we realize that Christ died a very cruel death and it was our sins that held him to the cross then we will not continue to live in this life of sin. Every drop of blood that He shed was so that we could be made pure and clean. Knowing this great truth how could we continue to live this life of sin? So do not be deceived, there is nothing called a gay Christian. If we want to inherit and be citizens of the heavenly kingdom then we must overcome the temptation of homosexuality.

I would go with the premise ‘what would Jesus do?’ During his life on earth Jesus spent time healing and speaking with lepers, tax collectors, an adulteress, the demon possessed…people who would be considered bad company for the righteous. The Bible doesn’t mention any homosexual person that Jesus would have interacted with. But one thing is for sure ‘He came to seek the lost and unsaved’ so in the light of that Jesus would definitely have had compassion for the sinner and wished him a life of no more sin. He had come not to condemn but to show mercy. In the light of this we are also called to show mercy and compassion and help the sinner out of their life of sin. Not alienate them and shun their company. Pray for them and lead them to Christ.

But here we should be careful that we don’t encourage and have a changed point of view ourselves and start accepting such behavior. Be wary of the temptations of this world. Be equipped to stand against the ploy of Satan.

In Deuteronomy 22:5 God commands that a woman is not to wear that which pertains to a man and a man is not to wear that which pertains to a woman, for all that do so are an “abomination.” This is not a command that a woman should not wear pants/suits as some use this passage to teach. The meaning here is that this “cross-dressing” and transvestism is done in order to deceive or to present oneself as something that he/she is not. In other words, this speaks to a woman changing her dress and appearance so as to appear to be a man and a man changing his dress and appearance so as to appear to be a woman. This is the definition of cross-dressing or transvestism. The issue here is the motive and attitude of the heart that is evidenced in the choice to rebel against God’s standard for obedience.

Though we don’t hate the person for who they are, yet assigning them to places of leadership would only be affirming their stance and acknowledging that we have nothing against their lifestyle choices. So the answer should be an emphatic ‘Absolutely not’ and this goes also for heterosexual people who have affairs outside of marriage or are in a live-in relationship with someone they are not married to. There is a way that we ought to live our lives that God calls us to live in accordance to His word. We should do our best to live a godly life because we are influencing others and there is a message our life is portraying to the world outside. So the answer is that we shouldn’t encourage or participate in permitting anyone who does not live in line with the teaching of scripture to be in positions of power within the church.

We are meant, like Christ, to be “a friend of sinners”, and should therefore strive to be the sort of friend someone would want to invite to their wedding. Figuring out what to do with such an invitation is therefore a good problem to have!

If invited to a gay wedding, I would not attend it for many reasons.

Firstly, a gay wedding is a celebration of two people who are living a lifestyle that God declares to be immoral and unnatural (Romans 1:26-27). “Marriage should be honoured by all” (Hebrews 13:4), but a gay wedding dishonours marriage by perverting its meaning.

Secondly, my presence in the wedding would lead to show others that I support the homosexual lifestyle. We support an alcoholic friend by helping him refrain from drinking, not by going to a bar with him. In the same way, we should support a homosexual friend by helping him out of the lifestyle, not by being a guest at a celebration of homosexuality. We do not truly help our friends by attending an event where their sin is applauded. And yes, I would take my gay friend for dinner later because as it is good to seek opportunities to witness to and show kindness and love to our gay friends.

It is never our goal to drive our friends away from Christ, but Christians have a responsibility to stand up for righteousness, even if it results in pain, division, or hatred.
